The builders are at it again, so a friend made an interesting suggestion. She has a pair of those headphone things that builders themselves wear when using pneumatic drills. She started wearing them to write when big city construction noises got too much, and said she quite likes the bubble they create.
I've got mine on now. I bought them from the DIY store yesterday. It's true, I can only hear a kind of scratching noise in the distance instead of the thud of a wall being knocked down. But I can also hear my shoulders creaking, and my heartbeat, which is freaking me out and making me breathe a bit funny. My fingers hitting the keypads are silent, and I'm making more mistakes. I think...
But the builders are gone, and that's what it was all about.
